The Legalization of Medical Marijuana

Arizona legalized the use of medical marijuana in November 2010 through proposition 203 (Arizona Medical Marijuana Act). The Medical Marijuana Act allows state-licensed doctors to recommend medical marijuana to Arizona patients who have qualifying conditions. These conditions include Alzheimer’s Disease, Cancer, Chronic pain, Crohn’s Disease, Glaucoma, PTSD, Hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.

With an Arizona medical marijuana card, the patient can possess up to 2.5 ounces at any time and purchase up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana from a state-licensed dispensary every two weeks. Arizona will charge a DUI even if the person is using marijuana legally. If you are driving under the influence of marijuana, DUI to the slightest degree can be charged.

With strict DUI laws in Arizona, there are three different types of Medical Marijuana, and you should be aware of their effects.

  • Sativa:

Sativa is a strain that makes you feel energized and awake. The medicinal effects make you feel uplifted and are used to treat ADD and mood disorders. People tend to use sativa to be active during the day since it raises your energy

  • Indica:

Indica is a strand that makes you feel more relaxed and calmer. Unlike sativa, you are not as energized and would generally rather lounge about on your couch and not be active.  Indica is a stoner’s favorite because it puts your body into a sedative state. Indica has so much CBN which will take you above the regular high when smoked. By smoking Indica, it can help with insomnia, alleviate pain, induce relaxation of muscles, relieve muscle spasms, and calm anxiety.

  • Hybrid:

The hybrid combines both the positive characteristics of Sativa and Indica by bringing together the different strains. There is a vast variety of mixtures that are available, and the ratios of Sativa and Indica are all different. Each hybrid will have a different effect on you depending on if it has more Sativa or Indica. Hybrids have grown in popularity and are more commonly available than pure Indica or Sativa.
