DUI’s Don’t Exist Everywhere

While you may think it’s common sense that every country has laws to prevent people from getting drunk and getting behind the wheel, this is not the case across the globe. Not every country has the concept of DUI’s. Did you know there are some countries in the world where drunk driving and even drugged driving are perfectly legal? Read on to find out more:

Togo is a West African nation on the Gulf of Guinea. Many drivers in this part of the world do not obey traffic signs or rules, many traffic signals don’t even work, and often residents will stage a collision by cutting you off on purpose. It is not much of a surprise that driving under the influence is legal, the area is already dangerous enough to drive in.

Other countries in Africa have no legal limit on alcohol consumption before driving. These countries include Kenya, Gambia, and Niger. Last year in 2017, a Kenyan court banned random breathalyzer tests as a way to catch drivers who are over the limit. Kenya has some of the most dangerous roads in the world, in the first half of 2016, 1,574 people died in accidents. A local Kenyan bar owner argued they violated Kenyans’ constitutional rights to make their own lifestyle decisions – including how much to drink.

Although there are many countries which have no drinking and driving laws, there are way fewer now than ever before. More countries are introducing stricter laws, especially those in the third world where auto accidents are high. However, although these places may now have new laws, the question is whether law officials properly enforce them in the region or not. This is very difficult to discern.

Here is a list of other places which have no legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit:

  • Anguilla
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Marshall Islands
  • Bolivia
  • Burkina Faso
  • Burundi
  • Somalia
  • Grenada
  • Guatemala
  • The Congo
  • Vanuatu
  • Bhutan
